What it comes to navigating the uncertainties of life, having good emotional wellness is a necessity. If we lack it then we will be much more prone to respond negatively to important life events.

 In fact,  emotional wellness is one of the most important types of wellness that we can have for thriving in life. But what does it entail, and why is it so valuable to possess. Let me elaborate a bit.

What is emotional wellness?

  Emotion wellness is being able to adapt to our situations in a reasonable and mature way. That includes coping with the stress that may come with them.

Our emotional wellness depends on our ability to manage our emotions. Whether they be good or bad.

 In order for this to happen, we must first be aware of them.

If we are sad, we should acknowledge that. If we are angry, we should accept that as well.

A big part of that involves being able to respond properly to the difficulties that life throws our way. Here’s an example of someone exhibiting good emotional wellness.

Bob is stressing over a sociology final.

He can show good emotional intelligence in several different ways.

  1. He can study for the exam.
  2. He can take notes for the exam.
  3. He can get a decent amount of sleep.
  4. He can eat nutritional food.

As you can see, emotional wellness can also be intertwined with physical wellness. By being physically well, Bob is more likely to handle an emotionally taxing situation better.

The same is the case, mentally as well. Being well emotionally entails having a decent understanding of yourself and how to best navigate the world without your emotions overtaking you in the process.

If you can do that, then that is half the battle.

Why is emotional wellness important to us?

if we do not have good emotional wellness then we will be more likely to act in ways that are not in our self-interest.

If being well emotionally involves controlling our emotions, not having that is the opposite.

 For instance, If you cannot regulate your emotions then you are more prone to getting into a physical altercation.

 Ideally, this type of conflict would never be a reality.  But if you are not well emotionally then it is much more probable. Along with a host of other problems.

If you cannot handle your emotions well, then you may not be able to handle your life well either.

You are supposed to take control of your emotions. Not the other way around.

Hopefully, now it is clear that our emotional wellness is very important. It can affect our work life, relationships with others, decision-making, and much more.

 Thus it is paramount that we work on its key tenants. Doing so will benefit us greatly and put us one step closer to living an ideal life.

In a way, we kind of owe it to ourselves to try our hardest to achieve emotional wellness. Especially due to its immense benefits.
