I believe that some of the most beautiful things about life are those we overlook. The “little things” so to speak.

We are always thankful for family, friends, and good health. But what about the stuff that we don’t usually think about?

It’s those things that often get taken for granted.

We may not even take note of those things unless someone else brings them to our attention. It’s these little things that we all too often overlook. Despite the fact, that they are much more important than we like to give them credit for.

Why is that?  I believe if we are thankful for the big things in life, we should be grateful for the little ones too. Let’s talk about them.

The importance of sunrises and sunsets.

Sunrise is the start of a new day. A day that many people did not get to see. We just so happen to be one of the lucky ones. Let’s be grateful for that.

Just because the sun will keep rising, doesn’t mean that we will. That’s not to sound grim, it’s just the inevitable truth. We are only here for a little while.

Just like the sun, we will be gone too sooner or later. Rather than be somber, we should be thankful for this time. Let’s enjoy the birth and death of a new day. Here’s hoping we’ll be blessed to see another one.

Be grateful for animals

Part of what makes life so enjoyable is the variety of species that live on this planet. These animals make life much more entertaining for us. Think about it, wouldn’t life be way less fun without our pets? What about forest animals?

Just because we cannot communicate with animals to the same degree that we do with other humans, doesn’t make them any less deserving of our attention.

Be thankful for a sound mind

When counting our gratitude, we often list off our physical health. But what about mental? Our mental health is important as well. It’s just that we often take it for granted.

There are millions of people all over the world who are struggling with poor mental health. Right now, there are people who are contemplating taking their own lives because they feel like it is the only relief they can have.

Let’s be grateful for our mental health too. After all, it is an essential part of living a satisfying life.

Other “little things”

There are many other examples as well. such as:

  1. Being able-bodied.
  2. Intelligence
  3. Old age
  4. Being at peace with yourself and others
  5. Literacy

and much more.

The little things mean a lot

The little things are a lot bigger than we realize. Someday, we will look back on things and realize that what we thought was insignificant was actually much more all along.

Conclusion

Let’s try to remember the beauty in the small things. I know it can be difficult to do sometimes. Especially when we are going through trials. But it’s a practice that will likely be very rewarding in the end.

Life is complicated, and we deserve a bit of a break every now and again. Sometimes it can be nice to just go outside, feel the wind blow against you, and just let go of your troubles.

In due time everything will be fine. Just calm down and look at things from a different perspective. If only temporarily.
