Sometimes we are crueler to ourselves than anyone ever is to us. We are in a lot of cases, our own worst enemy. We need to be kind to ourselves.

Having a consistently negative attitude about yourself is not a healthy thing. It can bring you down emotionally and even physically if you let it.

It’s important to show ourselves, love.  How we treat ourselves matters. And all too often people belittle themselves for relatively insignificant things.

People put themselves on a pedestal and expect themselves to be perfect. That’s not possible. Not for you, or anyone else for that matter.

Once you realize your self-worth you can start treating yourself the way you deserve to be treated. With love and compassion. Here are 5 ways to do that.

If no one is perfect, then you shouldn’t expect yourself to be either. Don’t berate yourself for every little mistake. It’s not the end of the world.  There is a healthy medium between caring too little and caring too much. Treat yourself like you would one of your friends.

Be kind to yourself by celebrating how well things are going

If things are going well in your life you should celebrate. You deserve to live the happiest life possible. Part of living up to that is rewarding yourself for all your hard work.

Think about what you like about yourself

If you focus on everything that you could do better, you will probably drive yourself mad.

Instead of doing that, it can be good to think about what you do RIGHT. Think about what you like about yourself.

Being kind to yourself involves acknowledging the good in you. Not, highlighting all the bad. Sure there are ways that you can improve. But everyone has things they can work on.

That’s no excuse to give yourself such a hard time.

Treat your mind and body the way it deserves

To be kind to yourself, you need to keep both your mind and your body healthy. Eat the right foods, and exercise as much as possible.

These two things can play a huge factor in a person’s life satisfaction. If you suffer from malnutrition both your physical and mental health will plummet.

If you want to show yourself, love, you need to keep your body and mind in tip-top shape.

Eliminate can’t from your vocabulary

When something is difficult we often say we can’t do it. As the saying goes, “can’t never could”.

The mind is a powerful thing. If we convince ourselves that we cannot do something then we won’t even bother trying. Or, if we do try, it may not be to the best of our ability.

Eliminate can’t.  Within reason, pretty much anything we set our mind to is possible just as long as we believe and give it our all.

Conclusion

Sometimes we don’t treat ourselves the way we deserve. Let’s stop trying to be a perfectionist.

It is good to set high standards for yourself, but not so high that you can’t reach them. You don’t expect perfection from anyone else so stop expecting it from yourself.

Our best effort is the most we can give ourselves and others.  Give yourself a break. You’re doing well enough as it is.
